CreativeGene Carnival, 122nd Edition "School Humor"

Image
For the CreativeGene Carnival 122nd Edition "School Humor" I can not remember any humor in my school days, but I have a funny related to my daughter in High School. My Hero was member of the Optimist Club.  We had gone to a community class on how to involved the school kids in fighting drugs.  The Optimist Club sponsored at C.H.I.C.K.E.N. Club who's motto was 'Just Say No'. The name stood for  C.H.I.C.K.E.N stands for " C ool  H onest  I ntelligent  C lear-headed  K een  E nergetic and  N ot interested in drugs!"   They had a Chicken Costume for a mascot to wear at rallies and activities.  It was kept in my office.  I was the school nurse, and my oldest daughter was the vice-president of the club in her sophomore year.   Her boy friend went to a different high school, 30 minutes away.  He was also a senior and had privileges of getting out early, etc.. One afternoon, thirty minute...

Fun Musings

Image
I am excited about the up coming movie called "Brave" .  For our family, it is so like our own Crystal and RedBeard.  I have sat and laughed while watching the trailer because I have seen our Redbeard in similar actions.  And Merida, well, they had to have been hiding somewhere and used my granddaughter as a model.  She is the spitting attitude of Merida, not to mention look a like.  Look at my scrapbook page and tell me if you don't agree. This promises to be a fun summer.

Congratulations To the Second Place Winner of the Texas State Plumbing Association Tournament

Image
You are always proud when your child has an achievement. Of course, he would be quick to tell me, he is a man, not a child. (smiling) Loved this observer's tee. Last week the Texas State Plumbing Association held their annual tournament for apprentice plumbers.  Each area could pick one.  My son had thought he was not going to be able to go as a classmate had been picked.  At the last minute, he was given the go ahead to compete.  He asked me to go so he could study the Plumbing Codes on the way up to Dallas.  Not a problem, I like seeing plumbing tournaments... just one question what is it? Do they joust with wrenches? or pipes?  Not exactly, they are given a blueprint,   supplies, a work space, and told to bring specific tools, His work space The first night they arrive, they are given an exam.  The second day, they have to perform a task with in 8 hours.  It was a challenging task. The contestants worked hard at it, ...

Great Ideas at the Nursery

Image
For those of you who do not know, I have started working at the Nursery the Hero and I worked at before he died.  It is spring time work, and of course this is my favorite time of the year.  I love plants... well, selective plants; weeds, some, not so much. Spring Gardens Nursery in The Woodlands, Texas  has grown and branched out since I last worked for them.  The owner has come up with several alternate growing methods.  Those who live here know what I mean when I say to grow organically in the ground in the south is challenging because of fire ants. His use of the strawberry pots and a wire arbor is great for someone wanting a small garden that looks fashionable. It would be awesome in a Townhome's patio. Tomatoes, Cucumbers His other idea was to use strawberry pots stacked for a floral display.  This is the beginning, I will share with you as they fill out. Dianthus, Begonia, Purslane, Mexican Petunia Yes I am having fun. It was hard the f...

Post for My Granddaughters--My Roof Top Visits

Image
When I was a teenager, my grandmothers lived with us off and on.  I was at the rebellious age and would feel the need to escape to talk with someone I felt would listen.  I was fortunate to not have any friends live near by, so my petitions, and complaints, and joyous feelings were shared with my friend Jesus Christ. I would go to the old walnut tree next to our garage, and climb up on top of the roof.  No one ever thought to look for me there. Once I had found a comfortable spot (I am on asphalt shingle right, comfortable?) , I would lean back and contemplate the stars and how small the night sky made me feel. Sometimes I was upset, and would sit and cry and express my feelings to Jesus with great fervor. I talked with him about many things.  My pain if I had been disciplined, my sadness if I hurt or felt wronged, my desires for the future...husband, being actively engaged in helping others.  He was there for me. I never heard a voice or h...

Recipe Experiment That Worked.

Image
I was tired.  There was still an abundance of left over turkey, so I decided to try an make impossible turkey pie in muffin tins so I could freeze some ahead if they tasted good. [If my children come on and comment, it will be something like "Mom, you are taking the ' Impossible Pie ' to a whole new level".  They all complained that Impossible Pie recipes were a regular menu item while I was working.] When I got the link, I discovered someone else had a similar idea. Great minds. My Impossible Turkey Pie in a Muffin Tin. First, I filled the muffin tin with chopped turkey, peas and carrots, and a sprinkling of Colby Jack/Monterrey Jack cheeses. Sprinkled with garlic powder, onion salt, and a pinch of sage for taste. Next in a 1 cup measuring cup, I mixed 1/2 cup of Bisquick, 2 beaten eggs, 2 Tbs of Plain Stoneyfield Yogurt, then finished with enough milk to make a cup. I slowly poured this mixture over the turkey mixture allowing it to sink in. I had preheated ...

A Dream Came True Last Friday

Congratulations to my son and his wife for a job well done. He finished his degree.  He graduates with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and an Associate degree in International Business. There is another Associate degree that is related to Air Plane Engines, but do not know the title. The California sister and her family flew in, the Texas sister and her family drove over. I came and his wife's parents came. Yes, it was a big deal to us.  He readily recognized the role of his wife in obtaining the degree and bought her a beautiful necklace as her gift for graduation.  It was funny, he had hid the necklace under a tee shirt that was from his college. He had to point out to her, that she had missed a box.  She was surprised. We are all so very happy for them. Now, he is job hunting, and they are pursuing their dream of having children through adoption. Check out their website.   Their adoption site . The mom is so excited to see their lives moving ahead. YEA...
