Slice of Life 'Fireworks'

The prompt from Texasblu is to write about our family stories of celebrating our countries freedom. Click here if you would like to join. When I was a little girl, we would go into my aunt's house that was two blocks from the court house as a family gathering.  In the late evening, we would take a blanket and walk over to the court house lawn, find a good spot and sit down to await the evening fireworks.  Funny, it was understood that the Fourth of July was a special day, but I don't remember anyone ever talking about it.  My dad and most of my uncles fought in World War II, so they were always quick to stand up and salute the flag and put their hands over their hearts when the national anthem was played.  I guess that is where I began to learn respect for my country. Slice of Live First Experience First Birth

When you get to be 60 plus, the number of first's grows.  Let me see what would be of interesting read. Ah.My first child birthing experience.  For most, I suppose it would be a spiritual like experience, a life changing experience.  For me, it was 'I will never have the same experience again!' I was a second year nursing student.   The doctor never really discussed what labor would be like and everyone else, I suppose, thought the same as he did, I was a nursing student so I knew all about delivery.  NOT. Hmmm, what were my expectations, Oh yes, cramping.  My stomach would start cramping, and I would have the baby.  Naive.
